For Immediate Release DCL Moves
Project Cargo Shipments to Chile and Peru
10.19.01
Carson, California-Earth excavators, a
crane, and a pump truck were among the items shipped to Latin America by DCL's
Project Cargo Department in August.
DCL, which worked with its affiliate
company Vanguard Logistics Services Chile S.A. to transport a crane from the US
East Coast to San Antonio, Chile, arranged to have the out-of-gauge crane,
which weighed in at 81,000 lbs., stowed and secured on two flat rack
containers. The crane, which arrived on August 28 in San Antonio, was safely
unloaded and delivered for use on a construction project.
On another project shipment to Chile, DCL
made arrangements for the transportation of a two pump trucks from Los Angeles
to Antofagasta on 40' flat racks. The pump trucks, used for mining operations,
were considerably taller than the flat rack containers at 13' 7" in height,
which required special handling and loading to secure them on-board the vessel.
DCL also arranged transportation for an
earth excavator, a mobile workshop, and a dredging unit from the USA to Cuzco,
Peru via Callao, for use on an extensive local mining project. The base of the
47,000 lb. earth excavators featured wide tracks that centered the machine's
weight on a relatively small area, requiring the use of flat racks rated for
the additional weight.
Since starting its Project Cargo Division
in 1999, the company has handled everything from mobile drilling rigs to jet
turbines on shipments to Australia, the Dominican Republic, Fiji, Ireland, the
Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and the
United Kingdom.
