Carson, California-Non vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) Direct Container Line announced that the company has restructured its services from Montreal and Toronto to improve transit times for many of its by services by up to 15 days.
Improvements on transit times will vary by destination, but company officials attribute the changes to new inland service schedules from Montreal and Toronto into Miami and New York.
"Our service schedules were already pretty competitive, but by changing the routing of the traffic and streamlining the schedules, we expect to see even faster transit times. This will impact a wide range of destinations in the Caribbean, Central America, and South America," stated Bruce Ericson, Vice President of Sales for DCL.
Specific examples highlighted by the company include Antofagasta, now with a transit time of 24 days from Montreal and Toronto, previously 31-32 days. In Central America, transit times from Montreal and Toronto improved by 7 to 12 days for service to Managua, Nicaragua, Panama City, San Jose, and several other destinations.
DCL, which offers one of the most extensive service schedules to the Caribbean, reports that the new inland service to Miami will further improve transit times on many of its services to the Caribbean. Transit times are expected to improve by 8 to 15 days for the company's direct consolidation services to Castries (St. Lucia), Port of Spain (Trinidad), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas), and many of the 20 cities in the region where DCL offers service.
DCL, has offered services from Montreal and Toronto for the past 10 years. Before the announcement on new inland service schedules, DCL routed shipments from these cities via Chicago, where cargo could be trans-loaded for service to destinations worldwide.
The new service schedule from these cities will also affect the company's services from New York across the Atlantic, with transit times decreasing by anywhere from 1 to 8 days on services to Alexandria, Antwerp, Barcelona, Bremen, Durban, London, and selected other cities.
